The OHT Fellowship

giphy.gif

More than ever, we need a global movement to ensure the best innovations improve and augment health equity. OHT Fellows are activists, ethicists, designers, researchers, clinicians, and policy experts who work on the front lines of this movement. OHT Fellows address important key enablers of diversity and inclusion in healthtech by running impactful Campaigns, curating local Hubs or ensuring OHT is an effective community that supports 1,000s of healthtechnologists for years to come to be better.

OHT Fellows are working to create approaches, solutions, resources or opportunities to improve diversity in healthtech. As part of a multidisciplinary and global community, OHT Fellows have the opportunity to learn from and contribute to a variety of approaches to address diversity and community challenges in the health innovation sector.

A little about the Fellowship

What is a Fellow?

"Fellows" are our most engaged members of the community, the drivers you might say! OHT Fellows are creating cohorts of future inclusive leaders in healthtech and want to be instrumental in driving this change and learning by doing! As an OHT Fellow, you can engage in one of three impactful initiatives:

Campaigns: Goal-driven activities working towards specific outcomes within a set timeframe.

Regional Hubs: Local OHT communities building close and supportive sub-networks.

Specialist Networks: Non-geographic, sector, or topic-based groups.

Advocate: New for 2025!! Be an advocate for diversity and inclusion in healthtech through thought leadership, social media and events

Expectations

Becoming an OHT Fellow implies certain commitments. We have Fellow’s charter that outlines these in detail. As a snapshot:

  • Be a Fellow for one year

  • Give regular updates on in-progress tasks, both online and at the monthly All-Fellows call

  • We suggest there is a maximum of 3 Fellows per project

  • Have a meeting with a mentor (3 times a year) (to restart soon)

  • Act in the spirit of OHT, sharing your knowledge and skills with other Fellows

  • Endorse the OHT vision and actively engage in the community

  • Be responsible for sharing OHT news and excitement with any volunteers that help on your tasks

  • Be assessed against these commitments and step down from OHT Fellows should your circumstances change, or be unable to meet the conditions and commitments stated above.

In return…

If you do this with the OHT community, then we hope OHT can:

  • Give you unique, practical, delivery and leadership experiences

  • Work with you to create impactful work

  • Raise your profile

  • Expand your network

  • Give you jazzy opportunities (work, talks, prizes etc) that we receive

  • Provide fun and fulfilment alongside your day job

  • Give you a direct channel to improve diversity, equity and inclusion in healthtech

Entrance criteria

We don't believe applying for the Fellowship should be the barrier. We recognise that even putting yourself forward for these things can act as a barrier in and of itself. We therefore take a "Proof is in the pudding 🍮" approach. Anyone who applies can become a Fellow, whether they fulfil the Fellowship expectations will depend on their behaviours and ability to deliver against the Fellowship commitments.

But just to make it crystal clear, Fellows are:

  • Any age and background, we welcome everyone, at any stage of your career from any discipline and level of experience and expertise

  • Highly committed to delivering on their OHT projects and understand the important of clear, transparent and honest communication about delivery, progress and impact

  • Ready to deeply engage in the OHT community, reinforcing its mission and objectives and supporting their fellow Fellows 😉 in their personal and professional development
