What inspired you to pursue a career in HealthTech?

My journey into HealthTech was shaped by my roles at Motilent and Doctory. Motilent is a med-tech startup focused on changing how we see the gut through advancing gastrointestinal imaging. My role was centered on turning cutting-edge research into practical solutions that could significantly improve patient outcomes. The challenge of navigating the intricate pathways from research to market, and seeing the direct benefits to patients' lives, underscored the profound impact that technology can have.

At Doctory, a pioneering telemedicine startup in Pakistan, I was inspired by the transformative impact of digital health services on communities with limited access to traditional healthcare. Witnessing the potential to reach underserved populations and provide them with crucial medical advice and support was a powerful motivator. This experience was pivotal, as it highlighted the critical role of technology in overcoming barriers to healthcare access and the importance of diverse and representative communities working in HealthTech to navigate these transformations effectively.

These experiences collectively inspired me to dedicate my career to this field, driven by the belief that technology can and should be harnessed to improve health outcomes globally, and this is what motivated me to join OHT as a Fellow.

What's your favourite hobby or activity that has nothing to do with your job?

Making artworks are my favourite activity and I'm lucky there are so many opportunities to do so in Brighton. The challenge and freedom of creating a sculpture or a painting allows me to completely switch off from whatever else I have been working on and I also get to meet thoughtful, kind and interesting people at class.

If you were a superhero, what would your power be?

If I could choose a superhero power, it would definitely be the ability to teleport. The idea of being able to visit friends or partners across the globe instantly would be so fun and so helpful. Calls or messages are just not quite the same as face to face connection. Plus there would be none of the stress of rushing to catch a train or a plane!
